L.J. Institute of Management Studies (LJIMS) was established in the year 2001 under the aegis of Lok Jagruti Kendra Trust as an AICTE approved postgraduate institute of Gujarat Technological University imparting a two year full time MBA program. The program is known as LJMBA.

LJMBA is the brand name of the MBA program offered by L. J. Institute of Management Studies which has a combined intake of 300 – ( 1st shift 180 + 2nd shift 120)  and the MBA programmes offered by L. J. Institute of Computer Applications and L. J. Institute of Engineering and Technology with an intake of 60 each. The total intake of LJMBA is 420 which is one of the largest intakes in Gujarat. LJMBA offers three specialisations : Marketing, Finance and Human Resource Management. Till date, 14 batches have passed out from LJMBA and the institute has an alumni association called Antarang having a total alumni strength of more than 4000.

Mission: LJMBA will endeavour to create dynamic professionals equipped with conceptual clarity, practical knowledge, efficient soft skills, self confidence, innovativeness and ethical concern.


Quality policy: The institute has a “Quality Policy”, which recognizes the limitations of individuals and institutions and expresses the resolve to strive for achieving  “perfection within limits”.


Salient Features of the Institute:

Research Orientation: The Institute has a very strong research orientation with 17 faculty members having Ph.D. degree and 22 faculties pursuing their Ph.D. The faculty publication includes 11 books, more than 100 research papers in national and international journals and more than 250 articles in magazines and newspapers.

Holistic Development of students: The Institute works towards the holistic development of the Institute and conducts a host of activities to develop abilities, attitude and skills among its participants.

CRADLE [Capability Recognition And Development Lessons for Entrepreneurship]: This initiative won the GTU pedagogical award for 2013. It provides for (a) Interactive sessions with first generation entrepreneurs, (b) workshops for development of entrepreneurship skills, Bridge Workshops, and MDP workshops, and (c) Research Projects with SMEs.

MAX (The Marketing Excellence Series): Its objective is to promote marketing skills among students through a series of interactions with successful marketing professionals from the industry and academia followed by immersion in companies

FINEX (The Finance Excellence Series):  Its objective is to strengthen the domain knowledge of finance and to expose students to practices in the arena of financial markets and services through a structured lecture series designed to include interactive sessions delivered by industry experts which is followed by immersion in companies in the area of Finance

HREX (The HR Excellence Series): Its objective is to expose students to the dynamics the HR field and help them understand and further strengthen various concepts of HR through direct interaction with HR experts. It is followed by immersion in companies in the area of HRM.

EXECUTIVE PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (EPDP): is a special program conducted to prepare students for final placements and the corporate world. Under EPDP, workshops on Mock Interviews, Mock group discussions, resume writing, etiquettes and grooming, business communication, spoken English and soft skills are conducted by highly skilled trainers and faculty members.

VIKALP (The Case Study Forum): This activity involves (a) identification, analysis and discussion of case studies in every class, and (b) data collection through visits to identified industries, data analysis and case writing by students of the first year divided in groups of 12 to 15 each under the guidance of a faculty member.

ANTRAPRENEUR (The Business Incubator): The Institute has a business incubator that supports students by means of incubation, investment and handholding. It helps the student to nurture their new venture and the spirit of entrepreneurship.

EXPLORE (Excellence in Practical Learning Over Real Encounter):  Its objective is to expose students towards the dynamics of corporate world making them understand various business processes through direct interaction at various manufacturing as well as the service sectors. This is a mandatory provision.

VIMARSH (The Forum for Group Discussion): It is an amalgamation of group   discussion, debates and extempore speeches.

ARCHETYPE (The Management Model Competition): Its objective is to bring out the creativity of students by enabling them to give a physical shape to the management concepts they learn in classes. It is now an annual startup event where students select a innovative business idea, develop it with the help of faculty members and external experts and pitch it to a jury of experts consisting of entrepreneurs, angel investors and venture capitalists. The best ideas are invited for incubation at Antrepreneur – the business incubator where they are incubated and developed into profitable ventures.

XCEL (Xcellent Cinema Enabled Learning): It is a movie club that facilitates experiential learning through showing meaningful movies that reinforce management concepts and higher lessons of life.

MINDSTEIN (The Quiz Competition): Its objective is to provide a common platform to students to explore, hunt, build, and cultivate their knowledge bank and to strengthen their communication skills

RE-INCARNATION (The Role Play): Its objective is to sensitize the upcoming managers with hypothetical business situations.

PARIVARTAN (The Extension Activity): Its objective is to inculcate among the future managers a sense of social responsibility through well planned activities.

ENVISAGE (The poster making competition): Its objective is to provide an outlet to the students for demonstrating their inherent creativity.

PRASHIKSHAN (The Live project immersion): It is a unique immersion program where students undertake live projects in companies on a part time basis for practical learning and exposure.

KSHITIJ (The wall magazine): It is a wall magazine that promotes creativity amongst students along with sensitivity towards different aspects of life.

FOREIGN STUDY TRIPS: Foreign study trips are regularly organized for students to Singapore, Dubai, Malaysia etc for better exposure and learning opportunities. The students visit companies and universities of those countries to understand culture, education and business practices.

INDUSTRIAL TRIPS:  Regular industrial trips are conducted to local companies to study the practical aspects of management.
